Grooveshark shuts down after 8 years

I know that these are old news for most of people, but I wanted to share it with you. I loved Grooveshark even though I used premium Spotify. After moving to Denmark I found out that Grooveshark is blocked here.. well bad for me. I moved totally to Spotify so now I add few songs a month to my few playlists and mostly listen same songs again and again.

However today I wanted to try Grooveshark cause I’m tired of same songs and most of the radios doesn’t bring what I want. Still blocked, no worries, we go around it.. and then I got redirected to some ticket buying site. “What the …..” came in my mind. So I started to google it.

“Grooveshark shuts down after eight years”.. “lost battle to music giants”.. “Grooveshark creator found dead weeks after music streaming site shut down
Joshua Greenberg, 28, co-founded music streaming website in 2006, gaining 35m users before closing in April after copyright row with major labels”..

I understand the copyright and everything but how I will listen to new great songs.. Grooveshark was the best for me to find new artists, songs. But no worries here comes Grooveshark.io and as owner is telling

“Well, I started backing up all the content on the website when I started suspecting that Grooveshark’s demise is close and my suspicion was confirmed a few days later when they closed. By the time they closed I have already backed up 90% of the content on the site and I’m now working on getting the remaining 10%.”

And I’m getting happy, but now.. these are old news also. Site is not working, copyright won again. I google more and then I found Grooveshark.org that has some new version Groovemp3.com. Didn’t give it a try yet. However don’t see anything great.

I read some comments on Grooveshark stories and found Soundsgood.co where people put great playlists on. Took Selection of the week #30 and got interesting chill type of music. Not sure if I will stick with any of these mentioned.

Spotify doesn’t bring me a lot of new content that I would like and radio based on songs suck. Also Discover weekly from Spotify had only 2 great weeks with good unknown music to me but not anymore. I go trough the playlist faster than Bolt can run 100m.

How do you feel about copyrights for services that offer free music and get shut down? Why is it that mostly free services has better / interesting offer than paid ones? It could be my music taste but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like that.

Could you suggest me any sites to find new great music, playlists or even radio stations? I would love something new. Here you can see some of my music taste from Last.fm.
